RALUS client compatibility on Linux (kernel 3.x) with BackupExec 2010 R3 SP3

Hello together,

I have a problem of running a version of the RALUS client working with BackupExec 2010 R3 on an Ubuntu 12.04 LTS system.

As far as i know, the RALUS client which is delivered with BackupExec 2010 R3 is kernel 2.x only. The problem is that my server hardware does not support a Ubuntu version with kernel 2.x. So, I have to use a 3.0 compatible RALUS client with BackupExec 2010 R3.

Since the BackupExec 2010 R3 RALUS client does not support this Ubuntu 12.04 LTS scenario (even if I heard of a manual binary patch, but it is inofficial and didn't work that properly to me), could it instead be a solution to simply install the RALUS client version delivered with BackupExec 2012? I would guess it supports kernel 3.0 - but the only question is, if it has down compatiblity.

Can anyone say something regard this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Regards

Edit: http://blog.redweb.at/2012/08/howto-backupexec-2012-linux-agent-and-kernel-3-0-debian/

As for Be 2012 it only supports upto 11.04

Hey, thanks for your reply!

Indeed I knew these two sites already - The second link (blog entry) you send, was the patch i mentioned. When I apply this, the agent starts, but I still don't have the ability to select any folders oder data in BE 2010. The root directory just leaves empty when i try to select the files to backup on the Ubuntu system...
Since the agent reports some errors (that i don't understand) when I'm going to start beremote in console logging mode, i would guess this fix is not 100% accurate. But maybe anyone knows about this issue and I still have any kind of misconfiguration left in my environment)

The first link is really diving deep into linux internals. I must confess I have no idea how to apply this to my system.

Therefore I thought it might be easier to just install a never agent :)
