Re-adding same server name after a rebuild

BJDBOYER

The customer had a crypto-infection on a server. it was a physical server being backed up. They did not do a BMR, but rebuilt it as a VM using the same name and IP address. How can I keep the existing server/backupsets in case of a restore is needed but protect the new server using the same name?

We're new to BackupExec, so please forgive the newbie if this is fairly easy.

TIA,

Bill

actually customer says it's the same name, but different IP. Does that make a difference? I moved the current one to the Retired Servers group.

Please install Backup Exec remote agent on the remote machine. Please follow any method in https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.TECH179142.

Once done, please move the server resourse back to "All Servers" group. (As you moved it to Retired).

Right click on the server name (make sure you can resolve the name from Backup Exec server - try a ping), and choose establish trust.

Once done, if there are old backup jobs present for that server, please edit that job and confirm the selections are visible. Or you can create a new job, after delete/hold the existing job.

All the old backup sets are retained, as there is no change in Backup Exec server side.

As the new machine is a VM, the color of the server resource in BE may change to blue.

Got it. Thanks!
