Redeploy Remote Agent Licenses

We use Veritas Backup Exec version 9.1. Some remote agents were licensed via a 3 pack Remote Agent license with a single license key .

I want to replace two of the three machines using the 3 pack of licenses with new machines (not simply a hardware upgrade, but retirement of the old servers and addition of new servers) .

It appears that the Backup Exec software does not monitor the existence of active remote agents. After removing the remote agents and pushing them to the new machines, I cannot add a new machine to a backup job, getting a message to the effect that there are no available licenses.

Can I uninstall and reinstall the 3 pack license without breaking the ability to backup the 3rd machine?

If not, what is the correct procedure to use the existing 3-pack license?

Try doing a local install on the two new machines

See http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/265736.htm

Hi,

Try the following document:

Alternative local installation method for the Remote Agent for Windows Servers (RAWS) and the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO)

I finally found the problem: the NDMP port.

To mitigate a Remote Agent vulnerability discovered in August '05, I changed the default port according to http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/255174.htm

When I pushed new Remote Agents to the new machines, they still used the default port and gave a message indicating a license issue.

After modifying the ndmp port on the remote agents to agree with the port on the media server, everything worked just fine!
