Redirect restore of files backed up from decommissioned server

Im trying to restore a file that was located on a Novell server, backed up by a Microsoft server with Backup Exec 10.1 and a remote agent on the Novell. We have since shut down our entire Novell network and the original server does not exist.
I try running a restore to redirect the file to the C drive and it fails with error code 0xa00084F9, A communications failure has occured between Backup Exec and the Remote agent. Duh.
I tried unchecking "Preserve Tree" and "Restore Security", but get the same error. There must be a way to get this file off the tape without building a Novell server.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hello,

"Final error: 0xa00084f9 - A communications failure has occurred between the Backup Exec job engine and the remote agent".

An event has occurred that is preventing the Backup Exec Job Engine service from communicating the Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Servers service. This could be due to either of the services stopping or due to a network related event that prevented the two services from exchanging data.
Please refer to the following tech notes to troubleshoot the issue:-
Title:-

Backup jobs fail with a00084f9 HEX; "A communications failure has occurred between the Backup Exec job engine and the remote agent."

http://support.veritas.com/docs/266181

(Please refer to the related documents given in this technote)

"A communications failure has occurred between the Backup Exec job engine and the remote agent." This error message is reported in the job log while performing a backup of a remote server.

Possible causes for this error occurring during a backup are:

The use of "NIC teaming" or having multiple network adapters installed on either the VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) server or the target server Duplex mode on the Network Interface Card (NIC) is set to Auto or Default, instead of having it set to either Full or Half Duplex (this should be selected on both the network switch and the computer's network adapter).

Please refer to the following technotes:-

Thank you for your replies, but I don't think you understand my problem. The original target servers no longer exist. They were Novell servers that will never exist again. I have one file I need to restore from tape and all I want to do is redirect that file to the local C drive of the Backup Exec server.
If I'm redirecting the file, Backup Exec should not have to contact the original server, unless it is looking for security information.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated, we are very anxious to get this file off the tape. It is frustrating that we were lucky enough to find the file after cataloging the tape, but now it's like dying of thirst in the middle of the ocean!

Thanks

Did you backup the data using the 'Back up compressed files in decompressed form' option?

http://support.veritas.com/docs/277454

Also, are you able to restore other (windows based) data to this server? Did you do any NetWare restores in the past?
