Remote Agent Install Issue

ToffeeTommy
Level 2

Trying to install remote agent 2010 R2 to Windows 2003 server and getting

Error connecting to the remote computer. Ensure that the computer is available, has WMI enabled and is not blocked by a firewall.24

The remote machine is contactable, WMIdiag shows no errors, there are no dcom errors, firewall not enabled, ran a repair on .net vers 3 (not that I think it's broken anyway)

Other remote installs are fine, and Backupexec server and remote server rebooted

Tried installing the agent manually on the remote server and works fine, but I want to see it listed in the remote agents list.

Push log file shows the following - I believe it is unable to create the remote insatllation folder, but dont know why?  Any clues?

Hi ToffeeTommy,

Make sure a firewall isn't running on that server in question. If it is, and you have to run it, make sure the required ports are open for BE to function correctly.

The ports are listed in the TN below:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH49563

Thanks!

Thanks for the responses

Have already published the media server on the remote machine using the remote agent. Backups of the remote server are fine, it's when you review the list of remote servers, so I can check if the agents are all up to date, is where the error occurs.

The firewall on both servers is disbaled.

...no AV installed that might be blocking the communication?

AV software is not blocking it

Open up the selection list, go to the custom selection and then add that server in via IP address. Once done, see if you can then browse it!

Can browse the server already, but tried the ip address anyway and still get the same error.

Just to clarify, the remote server has the correct agent on it because I installed it manually.  The only issue (and not really an issue for me but the end see's it as being a problem) is that when I go into Install Agents and Media Server on Other Server and try to add this server I get the Error connecting to the remote computer. Ensure that the computer is available, has wmi enabled, and is not blocked by firwewall.24

I have ran a repair on .net v3 sp1, have also installed .net v4

No firewall or av blocking

WMI has no errors and is running

No Dcom errors

IS the WMI service running on the remote server?

checked if filesharing enabled in the network connections properties.

Did you ever find a resolution to this? I'm having the exact same problem. It's just on one server; I've got a dozen other servers that I'm having no trouble with at all.

Nope...might be time to open a new query...
