Remote Agent error, but not using remote agent????

A client of mine hasn't had a successful daily backup in over a month. Here is the error:

Final error code: a00084f9 HEX
Final error description: A communications failure has occurred between the Backup Exec job engine and the remote agent.
Final error category: Resource Errors

The daily backup job only has local selections. There is a NAS weekly backup job that uses the Remote Agent but it's working fine.

I've recreated the daily backup job and installed the latest tape drivers.

Whether a local backup or remote backup, a Remote Agent is always used in Backup Exec 9.0 and later. There is a connection to the Remote Agent on the local server during local resource backup. I would first determine if the Remote Agent service is stopping for some reason during the backup.

Hi there,

You may find the following document useful:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/266181

As a troubleshooting step, lower the remote agent prioity and check the results:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/253094.htm

We hope this helps you. Do reply to this post if you continue to face any issues.
Thank You.

Backup job still not working. I upgraded to Backp Exec version 10.0 and now the error is:

Final error: 0xe00084ec - Error reading/writing data from/to the media.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

We cleaned the drive and used new media. I've tried updating both the Veritas drivers and the manufacturers drivers. I also flashed the system BIOS to update the integrated SCSI controller that manages the backup drive which is the only device on the bus.

Thanks,

Max.

Try creating a Backup to Disk folder and run the backup to that (just edit the job to use the new device) and see if the backup completes successfully without errors. This will at least confirm the error is hardware related.

2. Reboot the server

3.After this please run latest Veritas device driver install and reboot the server after successful install

Please check the technote below:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/273887

---Also please stop the RSM service if it is running
