Remote Netware Agent won't Restart

On Netware 6.5 SP3 I am replacing an earlier Netware agent with the latest agent from BE Netware 9.1.1156.

I run BESTOP, replace the files, and then attempt to BESTART. I receive the following error and the agent fails to start:

NDMPD.NLM: Unable to initialize communication interface. Another application is currently using NDMP.NLM port: 10000. Further program execution is not possible.

If I reboot the server, this error goes away. It seems to happen most often on Netware servers that are Groupwise Post Office servers.

Since rebooting is very inconvenient, does anyone have advice about how to clear the error short of reboot?

HI,

Download a Utility called TCPView from the following site:

http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/TcpView.html

Run the utilility and check which application is using the port 10000.

Ensure that port 10000 is available and listening on the remote NetWare server.
If possible reboot both the servers NetWare and Media server and check the results.

Obviously, TCPView will not run on Netware server., since it is a Windows program.

A dump of ports in use from Netware's Remote Manager does not show port 10000 is use, but the NDMPD.NLM will not load and says the port is in use.

Hi,

BESTART.NCF needs to be edited to add the switch -!X.

Refer to the following dcoument as well

After starting VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 for NetWare Servers with the BESTART command, a SureStart error message appears stating that another application is using communications port 10000. Port analysis utilities determine that port 10000 is actually not in use.

Hope it helps
