Remote agents co-existing for a period of 1 week.

Currently we are in the process of upgrading from BE 10 to 11d.

We we have purchased the media kit for 11d and 2 11d remote agent licenses.

Basically we have the following scenario:

Server_1 file server with BE 10 installed.
Server_2 file server with remote agent v10 installed.
Server_3 file server with remote agent v10 installed.

Server_1 backs up itself and server_2 and server_3 using remote agents v10.

Server_2 and server_3 are being replaced and taken out of commission.

Planing to upgrade BE on server_1 from 10.0 to 11d.

Then to restore file data from server_1 to the replacement server_2 and server_3 with v11d remote agents installed.

But in the meantime we will need to backup the old server_2 and server_3 until the big bang switch over weekend.

So can we install the 2 11d remote agents on the 4 servers but only have 2 servers running at any one time.
Or else this will mean we will have to buy another 2 remote agents only for them to not be used once the servers have been taken out of commission.

I hope all this makes sense to you.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

A v11d media server should connect to v10d remote agents.

As long as you get the v11 agents installed on the new servers soon, you should fall under the "for the purpose of rolling upgrades" language in the licensing policy and not need to purchase additional v11 serials

So if the same remote agent serial was installed on 2 different servers it should be ok?

Or can I only have 1 server up and running at any one time or else the remote serials will clash?

Actually, as long as you have at least one RA serial installed on the media server, it will connect to as many RA machines as you want to point it to. The serials are not tied to a specific computer (by design - this way if you have muiltiple media servers, you can backup any target machine from any media server)

You ARE responsible for making sure that you have one RA serial for each remote machine that you backup.

Ok that's great. We will give it a go this coming weekend.

Thanks ;)
