Restore Old E-mail when Old Exchange Server is Gone

I have an old tape of a long gone Exchange 2003 server.  GRT was used.  I can browse the tape and have found the e-mail i need.

Can I restore this single e-mail as just an message file?

What are my options?

What is my simplest option?

Thank you

Also what would be the best version of BE to use?

Re: Restore Old E-mail when Old Exchange Server is Gone

I created a server 2008 R2 and installed Outlook 2010

I selected a single small mailbox to restore to PST.

The restore gets to the restoring but i keep failing with Final error: 0xe00002f8 - Cannot open one or more mail messages because of unknown MAPI errors. Review the job log for more information.
Final error category: Resource Errors and error V-79-57344-760

V-79-57344-760 - Unable to open the item Stuff Mailboxes - skipped.

I am using a BE 16 and restoring from a GRT Tape of exchange 2003.

Re: Restore Old E-mail when Old Exchange Server is Gone

I tested this on Exch 2003 set I had on disk and tape.

I installed BE 20 trial on Windows 20008 R2 server and was able to restore from both disk and tape to PST without issue.  Outook 2010 32 bit per admin guide.

If IP6 is enabled try disabling it for MAPI error.  Sound like the BESA account can't logon and resulting in MAPI error.
