Restore missing job history logs

DCA-IT
Level 4

We're somehow missing entries for certain backup jobs in the Job Histories pane in the Job Monitor window. The logs exist in C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec\Data as .htm files which can be viewed via a web browser but they do not appear in Job Histories. Is there any way of restoring these?

Thanks in advance.

The Job Logs are HTM files, however the job histories are entries inside the Backup Exec Database

Job Histories can be deleted by an administrator within the Backup Exec GUI or by the automated settings in the configuration of the database maintenance.

Once the job histories have gone, they cannot be recovered without restoring the complete database back to the time those histories existed - unfortunately if you do that you would lose all job and media information for any job that ran after the date you restored against (or lose any settings changed for any job modified or created after that date) - which in effect means you cannot restore those job histories whithout a bad effect on other jobs and settings.

You can of course refer to the job log files that you believe still exist, but will have to open them manualy (in a text editor) and expect them to have lost their formatting.

OK, that's a shame. Thanks Colin
