Restore tapes from Backup Exec 12.5 on Server 2012 R2 with Backup Exec 2012R3

Hi

Im trying to plan a disaster recovery test for a customer.

They are running a couple of HyperV 2008R2 Servers. They are backup by a Backup Exec 12.5 with VM addon down to a HP autoloader.

Now we need to test that we can restore it at a second site with a single tapeloader. Is it possible to restore Backup Exec 12.5 VM backups using Backup Exec 2012, on a Hyper-V 2012R2. Or do we need to use the exact same OS and Backup Exec version?

Server 2012 R2 is not supported by BE 2012. You got to wait until BE 2012 R2 which is due to be released in the middle of the year

Hello Hanson

Please note: Hyper-V 2012 R2 is not supported in Backup Exec 2012

Besides this, theoretically it is possible to restore sets of Tapes written by older versions after a inventory and a catalog off the tapes, but is can be tricky in this situation.

But I think the most important thing is to use the same hypervisor to ensure compatibility of the drivers installed in the VMs.

If this was helpful please mark this as solution.

Thank you for the answers. I ended up making a 2008R2 with 12.5.
