Restore to BUE 2010

Our company recently changed from Netbackup (v 6.5.4) to Backup Exec 2010. We no longer have Netbackup and only have Backup Exec.

First question:  Is Backup Exec 2010 compatible with Netbackup 6.5.4?

If so, how do I restore from Netbackup backup tape using Backup Exec 2010?

Thank you.

AFAIK, Backup Exec uses MTF (Microsoft Tape Format) write out it's data, while NetBackup uses a poprietary format developed by Veritas (one not supported by BackupExec)

You can test this by attempting to inventory and then  cataloging a tape from Netbackup

You can't use Backup Exec to restore NetBackup-created media (any version). You'd have to retain one license of NetBackup for older backups unless you plan to migrate the backups into BE via a restore and backup. It probably depends on how long your retention period is on the existing media.

I had a feeling that these two programs weren't compatible.

Thanks for your responses.

Actually, Netbackup uses "tar" as it's image format, not proprietary at all.. but yes Bill, you can't really "import" Netbackup images into Backup Exec as they use different formats, as was already said..

Feel free to lemme know of any questions, since you know me hehe ;)
