Restoring Exchange 2013 with BE 2012

Is there a published article with valid information that describes in detail how to restore email from Exchange 2013 when backing it up with BE 2012?

I realize that GRT is not currently available but there must be some way to restore Exchange 2013 email with BE 2012.

I am not sure of the article however I believe it is similar to a non-GRT Exchange 2010 e-mail restore where you use a Recovery Database (configured in Exchange) to restore the whole of the mailbox store into and then you use Exchange Utilities to extract the e-mails you need to move them back to production.
