Restoring Windows Server Logs in Backup Exec 2010 R3

Hi,

I need some clarification on this toipic. If anyone has any direct experience of restoring Windows Server Logs (specifically) the Security Log, I would be interested to hear about your expereince.

I am currently unable to successfully restore the log files from a Backup Exec 2010 R3 backup. The files appear to successfully restore (for testing, to a network file store), however when I attempt to open them in Event Viewer they are reported as being corrupt.

Any solution/advice/suggestions welcome.

Regards,

Simon.

Hi Simon,

I'd assume that since it is stored in the System State of the server you'd have to restore the System State to a VM or another server to get what you need...

Thanks!

Simon, I just tried doing this. The restore works and I am able to view the contents of the logs as well. Could you try to restore from another backup set of a different server and check.?

I hope you did redirect the system state to a file system and retrived the files (http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO23095 )

Try to get those event log files on the same server and try to open them.
