Restoring individual mailbox from BE 2010/Exchange 2010

I use the GRT option when performing full backups on our Exchange 2010 environment.

I need to restore a mailbox from tape to a different mailbox. However it is attempting to stage the entire database to disk. I chose the individual's mailbox, then configure the Exchange redirect options, but it wants to stage the entire information store.

Is there a way to just restore a mailbox to another mailbox without going through all this? I remember doing this much less painfully in an Exchange 2003 environment.

I cross my heart I googled up and down searching for the answer. There are so many different exchange and BE versions that it's very difficult to find a specific solution. I greatly appreciate any responses.

While restoring individual items from GRT enabled backups on tape, Backup Exec copies the entire backup set to the staging area. (For Exchange 2003 also) Backup Exec deletes the data from the staging area when the restore job is complete. If you use B2D folder (On a disk without file size limitations) for GRT backups, then this will not happen.

You will always need a staging disk when you perform GRT restore.

Hi,

 

There is only 1 other way to do this...you can duplicate your backup to disk first, and then restore from there.

This manually copies it to a disk of your choosing (if you don't choose to change from the C:\Temp directory yourself).

I let it run all night and came in to the office to see the restore was complete. I had scared myself a bit reading that I might need other software to restore the mailbox after the staging was complete.

 

I guess 15 hours will have to be the turnaround time for mailbox restores.

No.  You need a staging area only when doing GRT restores from TAPE
