Hi Guys,
I have recently setup backup exec 2010 R3 to use external hard drives using the method that phk describes in the article below.
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/articles/how-rotate-external-harddisks
This has been working great but came across a gotcha....
I restarted the server on Friday night with the external hard drive plugged into the system. When I checked it on Monday i noticed that on the Fridays Backup drive there were the following Folders.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday.
So what it looks like has happened is that when the backup exec services have restarted they have created folders on the external hard drive for devices it could not detect in the Device Pool (if that makes sense). Previously this hard drive only had a FRIDAY folder on there.
Is there any way to get around this? I know the simple way would be to remove the hard drive before a server is restarted but unfortunatly I do not always have that option available.
Cheers
Peter
