Run Backup Exec 2010 R3 Restore Job in Test Mode?

Is it possible to run a Backup Exec 2010 R3 restore job in test mode like you can with a backup job.

What I am trying to achieve is a list of files and folders that have been deleted/renamed since a backup we ran in May this year.  The system is a live Windows file server, so we do not wish to restore the files/folders until we have identified what would be restored and to where.

Is this possible,or should I be looking at another tool to obtain this information?  I know the information is in the catalogue, so could this be queried directly?

Regards,

Steve

You can use CatTools to dump a list of files from your catalog of the backup.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH136392

This will give you a list of files that are backed up.  You can then compare this to what you have at the moment.

Why don't you try a redirect restore to another location instead of dumping files to the original location.

Refer to http://www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO23121

That would restore everything, not just the files/folders that are missing.  Yes we probably could use a script/tool to compare, but is there no way for Backup Exec to help with this?

At this stage we are not looking to restore the data, just to anaylse what is missing.

Thanks pkh, that could be a good solution.  I could export for the backup in May and our last full backup from the weekend and compare the outputs off line.

I will update on my progress later.

CatTools looks like it could do the job, but the output needs to be manipulated into a better form.  I'm used NotePad++ to do the search and replaces listed below, but I could do with some help itentifying the column headers.  Some are obvious, but others would require a guess.  Is there a reference for these published that I'm missing?
