According to BE2012 SP3 release notes, this is one of the 'known issues resolved'. I have updated all my BE servers to SP3 and so far the issue still exist on all of them. Has this worked for anyone out there?

Hello Guev007,

Does running an inventory help?

run Live Updates to see if SP4 ,the latest service pack, is available to install  if not go to http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH212772 for the download.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, running an inventory works, but it is not efficient when you have to do it for more than 10 tapes.

I will try SP4.

I remember this issue and I haven't heard much about it lately, so I assumed that SP3 fixed it for everybody.

these are the workarounds that I know of:

1) do the bulk load into empty slots.  this is not feasible if you already has a full library.  a bulk unload from full slots is an acceptable optional step.  then run the BE scan job and the slot contents should be correct.

2) do the bulk unload (only).  close the library door and let it settle.  run a BE scan job, you should now see empty slots.  now do the bulk load. close the library door and let it settle.  run the BE scan job and the slot contents should be correct.

How did you encounter this issue?  Were you loading brand new tapes into the tape library?  Or were you re-loading tapes that were previously used by this installation of Backup Exec?  I have a hunch that scan works OK for known/used tapes, but maybe not when the tapes are brand new.
