I am using BE and currently i am not at the location where the server are. I have one guy that changes tapes daily. (he is not that knowledgeable guy of BE). I have a stand alone dlt tape drive and i'd like to run an inventory before the backup does? Can I set BE to run an inventory when that guy puts a new tape in?

It is simple. If you are using BE 10 or later one, you can schedule inventory jobs. To get your job done, schedule an inventory before a few minutes the backup starts, ask that guy to insert the tape before a few minutes.
