Hi,

Moved to a new post...the previous query is dead.

You would do it as follows:

1. Connect server and storage to the SAN, and zone the library to see the media server, and any other servers that you want to backup across the SAN.

2. Load Backup Exec and license agents as needed on every server that will backup across the SAN.

3. Run the SAN SSO configuration on the primary server, and then on each of the other servers.

4. Create your jobs and run your backups.

Check the links below for more information, and also consult your version of BE's Admin Guide which will give you a lot more information. If you are using BE 2010, then SAN SSO is a licensed option on its own. If you use BE 2012, you need the Enterprise Server Option (ESO).

Also make sure that your hardware you want to backup to is supported on the BE HCL for your version.

Thanks!

Hi,

You don't see SAN storage in the resource list...this is your target and is seen in your Devices tab if using BE 2010. Either way you target your job/s to the backup target.

No to #2. If it is a tape library, and the media server and other SAN-attached servers are zoned to see the library, it will show under Devices. If this is dis, then you create a backup-to-disk.

Thanks!

OK...so what storage are you using? Is it disk or tape?

Either way, for the media server to see the SAN-attached storage, you need to zone the storage and server on the fibre channel switches. Can't help you with this as you need to do this yourself, or get someone to do so. Zoning is easy though, but needs to be done.

If it is disk, then you create a LUN on the storage, and present to your media server. This pops up in Windows. Format the new drive, give it a drive letter and name (if you choose). Once done, open up BE and go to the Devices tab and right-click and choose the option to create a new B2D. Follow the prompt.

IF you have other servers connected to the SAN that want to use the SAN for backups for, then zone them to see the storage. Install a full version of BE and any licenses (eg. Exchange). Once done, run the SAN SSO wizard on the primary media server, and then configure the other servers accordingly.

If there aren't any other SAN-attached servers, then what I suggested first in this post is all you need. You can then create your backups.

Thanks!

Seriously? I'd suggest getting a storage admin to do this for you if you don't know. There are a lot of storage vendors with a lot of different storage types.

Get the storage admin (either within your company or get a consultant) to create the LUN and present it, and you can create the B2D.

Thanks!
