SDR failed to connect to backup server

Hi, our backup server is BE 2014 SP1 on Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. We are trying to restore full system of some clients by using SDR. However, after we boot the client to recover with the SDR boot CD, when it asks for connections to the backup server, although we put in the correct username and password, it always says it cannot connect to the backup server. Both the backup server and clients are in WORKGROUP. There is no domain in this network.

Have anyone encountered this issue before? Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Thanks a lot for your answers.

We managed to resolve this issue by checked the security settings one by one in the backup server. In the end we found one of the security settings block the connection.

Try these KBs -

Thanks for the links. However, none of the links works in the environment here. The backup server OS has been hardened before the BE installation. Is there a checklist for BE regarding security policy or group policy settings? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the KB link. We checked and seems all the necessary rights are there. The error we saw in the log is:

Failed to connect to the BE server resource: \\192.168.xx.xx\IPC$. Error code: 1326

Error Message: The user name or password is incorrect.

We tried to use both IP address and hostname of the backup server but received same error.

Any advice? Thanks.

Are you able to access administrative shares (C$, IPC$ etc) from the remote server ?

And instead of using the IP address, try using the FQDN or Netbios name instead.

No. Tried both IP address and hostname. None of them works.

We suspect there are some issues with the OS and/or firewall. However, there are a lot of settings between the backup server and the client. We have no idea what settings we shall check.

Any check list for OS and/or firewall settings? Thanks.

Here is a KB on firewall settings - http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH43579

From the SDR wizard, are you able to ping the BE media server and access shares using the command prompt from the Utilities tab ?

Additionally, check the Log File as well from the Utilities tab if there is more detailed information or not.
