Several 10d installation questions.

We are attempting to use 10d in a Windows 2003 enviroment.

All servers are on the same peice of wire.

#1 = Small Business 2003 Exchange - Domain Controller - DHCP _ RAS
#2 = Win 2K3 Enterprise - SQL 2005 - IIS - MSFT Virtual Server R2
Following are virtual servers running off of #2:
#3 = Win 2K3 - Terminal Server - SQL 2K specific to Act for Workgroups
#4 = Win 2K3 - FTP & application Server

It was our thought to run 10d off of #2 and have it back up the rest of servers. It attempting to do so we have encountered the following problems / questions:

Initial install would not work with SQL 2005. I saw that there was a patch to get it to work with SQL 2K5, but I could only apply that after the intitial install. So I pointed the install to an alternate SQL 2000 DB for temporary access.

So now I am trying to figure out how to get BE to now use the SQL 2K5 DB?

We have a license for Exhange Agent. If BE is on Server 2 and Exchange is on Server #1, it was my assumption that we install the full program on Server 2 and just the exchange Agent on Server #1.

There seems to be no option to install the Exchange Agent on anything other than the server that has the full install of BE?

Really appreciate the help, and fully welcome any thoughts on a valid install architecture for our enviroment as described above.

Hello,

- It is not recommended to use Veritas Backup Exec 10d on SQL 2005 as it is not tested.

You can refer the Software Compatibility List for the same:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/264484

- You need to use SQL 2000 on that server.

- You can backup SQL 2005 with the Veritas hotfix 6.

Also, it is usually recommended that backup Exec not be installed on an existing SQL instance for the reasons mentioned in the following Document:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/273485

The Exchange agent is installed on the Backup Exec server only.

You cannot install them on the remote server.

However, you have to install remote agent on the remote Exchange server. Please refer following TechNotes:
