Hi!
How to share a media atached to a Backup Exec server to another BEX server.
I need to duplicate tapes but the LTO is out of the reach of BEX. Any way to see this LTO ?

You'd need the following:
1. 2 x Media servers connected to the SAN
2. 1 x Library/autoloader attached to the SAN
3. SAN SSO license installed on your primary media server (say your server that you want to duplicate from)
4. The library must have more than 1 drive
Without that it won't work. Also, if your 2nd media server is located on another site it won't be worth it as you'd still have to ship the tape there.
THanks!

Actually, the only way to share devices using SAN SSO is when all your devices are connected via a SAN. No DAS-type devices like SAS/SCSI-attached drives or libraries. If you have a SAN in place already, then great...it will work.
If you don't, you're being pointed down the wrong track and you'll end up purchasing a license you can't use.
If you can't duplicate tapes locally on the current media server (ie. you have a library/autoloader with 2 drives in it), then you will need to attach another drive to the server to do so. Or restore your backups to disk, and then backup to another tape destined for the remote server.
Thanks!

The only way you can share Storage is by using SAN SSO option.

Ok great! So, if I have a Library and a autoloader in the SAN, the duplicate tape must work, right?

Craig that was usefull, thx!
Now, if I want to duplicate a tape that allready have information, can I create a jobs that do this? Without the process of create a backup job and then duplicate to tape.
Can I create directly a job that duplicate a tape?
Thanks!

Hi Lukas,
Not sure why I didn't pick on on this...anyways, if you have 2 tape drives in a library or attached to the server, then duplicating isn't an issue. Select the tape to duplicate as the source, and then the tape to duplicate too as the destination. BE does the rest.
Thanks!
