Sharepoint Backup takes time at updating catalogs

Hi,

I am running Sym BE 2010 R2 with Hotfix 148347 however the backup of MS Sharepoint 2010 is running very slow. It starts at good speed but as soon as it shows updating catalogs the backup speed goes down to 20 MB/Min which inturn completes the backup in appx 17 hours (Total data it backs up 27 GB only).

Hotfix 148347 is already installed which was mentioned as its solution but is not helping.

Can anyone help to resolve this issue?

Hi Kamal,

Upgrade to 2010 R3 with SP1 and any available patches and try the job again.

I have googled about this issue and found the below links.

People are mentioning about the performance issue after upgrading to 2010 R3 Sp1 +patches and also for some even after upgrade this is not resolved.

I also dont find how upgrade can help us to resolve this issue as I dont find any update or related information which can help us to resolve after doing the upgrade.

Please check this forum which talks about the same and even after upgrade this issue is not resolved.

Also check this article in which it is clearly mentioned that Symantec Corporation has acknowledged that the above-mentioned issue is present in the current version(s) of the product(s) mentioned at the end of this article. So how can the upgrade resolve the issue.

As an admin I have to check the dependency of other backup jobs and agents which may be affected after the upgrade.

Please suggest what can be done ?????

Are you backing up to disk?

Make sure drive is not fragmented and exclude from AV scan.
Try a local drive if using ISCI lun or raid 5.

Hotfix 164659 in R3 seems to help with tape based sharepoint backups and updating catalog.

No I am taking backup to tapes..

Upgrading from BE 2010 R2 to R3 is a big task as have lot of dependencies which needs to be taken care.
