Sony Lib-152

Hi,

I hope this may save someone a lot of time...

I have 2 tape autoloaders one of which is a Sony LIB-152 (Spectra 215 (!) with SDX-300c drive) I had been using the Sony on a diferent box using windows backup but thought that it was worth trying to move this to my backup exec server to allow me to interleave my backups.....

To cut a long story short, for anyone who has one of these and can;t get it to work, this device does not work directly with BEWS - It has to be used via RSM (at least it does with my setup). Trying to use it via BEWS results in an awful cracking noise while trying to unload media and the device going offline (physically). RSM drives it perfectly. Be aware though, trying to use it via BEWS using RSM trashes it just as well as using it directlyin BEWS.... This happens with all the drivers (native windows, sony and veritas) I've used.

Hope this helps?

I would suggest you check the HCL list for BEWS 10.0

If the device is listed, Install the latest veritas driver:

Steps:
1) Turn the device off.
2) Turn the server off.
3) Turn the device on fist.
4) Turn the server on next.
5) Install the latest veritas driver from following link:

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20041101) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041006) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)

You can install the VERITAS driver using the "tapeinst" utility:

Note:Make sure Removable storage services is stopped. SCSI ID o,1 and 6 should be avoided as they are reserved IDs.
