Sql restore of 100 GB+ Db from deduplicated storage fails, succeeds from tape and non-dedup storage

Not applicable

I need a solution for the following problem.

Restore of a sql database (+-120 GB) fails from dedup store, but succeeds when run from tape and non-dedup disk storage.

Production env: vmware esxi 5.1, 2 nodes, vm is windows server 2008 r2 with ms sql server 10.50.4033, backup exec agent 14.1.1786.0

backup server: physical server, windows 2008 r2, symantec backup exec 2014 with latest hotfix (218257)

Backup taken with agent and vcenter to deduplicated storage, backup verified, both fail on restore attempt

2 new backup jobs defined, backup to tape and disk.

Restore of those backups succeed.

Restoring smaller databases from deduplication store works fine.

I've been plagued by this error before in Backup Exec 2012, where duplication to tape was a workaround. Installing Backup Exec 2014 and restoring from deduplication worked. (win2k3, sql server 2005 rtm).

Moved the database in question to a new server with more cpu and ram (w2k8r2, sql server 10.50.4033), issue reappears.
