Symantec BE15 backup files on NAS performance is very low

we are using BE 15, installed on physics windows 2012R2 server, we have a volume on NAS linked via iscsi to a VM on vmware host, agent was installed on VM server,  we are backup files to HP MSL2024 Library with LTO4 tape, the library connect to the backup media server via 4Gb Fiber, but when backup files on that volume, the performance was very low, only about 30~40MB/min, what's the problem, which we need change?

Re: Symantec BE15 backup files on NAS performance is very low

Hi, Couple of things to check: 1. Transfer data between the volume on the VM and the media server to see if there is a network issue; 2. Check and see if any AV installed isn't perhaps actively scanning the BE services, and if so, put in exclusions for them; 3. How much data are you backing up? If you're backing up a lot of small files, then the drive itself ends up "shoe-shining" during the backup run...it stops and starts all the time. You can test this by creating a very large file on the VM you're backing up data from and then trying to back that file up. Check the speed when doing so. Thanks!

Re: Symantec BE15 backup files on NAS performance is very low

Are you using a virtual agent to backup (so creating the backup job using either the Vcenter server object or the ESXi host server object) - if you are and if SAN transport is working the job log will state that SAN transport is being used if it names NBD transport you are doing a virtual machien backup over the LAN.

OR

Are you backing up using the traditonal agent for windows process (so creating the backup job using the object that represents the virtual machine itself) - this method will be slower (and the job log will not contain any details about SAN or NBD transport OR if fact even name the Virtual Center or ESXi host)
