Symantec Backup Exec 2012 Small Business Edition installation question

Hello experts,

when you install Symantec Backup Exec 2012 Small Business Edition on a Windows Small Business Server 2008/2011 box and it comes time to enter the username and password for the Backup Exec Service Account, do you usually use the account with Administrator privileges created during Windows SBS setup and used to manage the server or do you prefere creating a new dedicated account with Administrator privileges (this account will not be subject to the policy of requiring periodic changes in passwords) ?

I usually prefer the second choice.

Any help/information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and Regards,

Massimiliano

You may stick with the 2nd option as far as the account is granted with the rights mentioned in the

below article.

Refer to  http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH36718

Note: Due to security implementations in Microsoft Small Business Server, the service account must be " DomainName\Administrator " account.  (Quoted in the above TN)

You CAN leave it as the default Administrator account, but I  use a separate ID

Hello AmolZeroCool,

thank you for your reply.

I also prefer/use to create a new dedicated account with Administrator privileges (mainly because this account will not be subject to the policy of requiring periodic changes in passwords).

Then to make sure that this account is granted with the rights that are required I login onto the server using the newly created service account and run the Symantec Backup Exec Support Tool to scan the local computer and generate a report about potential issues with the newly created Backup Exec service account in the Backup Exec environment.

Do you approve this approach ?

Thanks and Regards,

Massimiliano
