System State backup on Windows Server 2008 R2 slow

Hi,
I'm experiencing a slow backup speed when backing up the System State of Windows Server 2008 R2 AD servers.
Compared to our 2003 AD servers the backup runs 4-5 times slower on 2008 R2.

Does anyone have experience on if this is expected behaivour?

Our setup:
Backup Exec. 12.5 SP3 all patches applied (on Windows Server 2003 std. 32 bit with 4GB RAM)
LTO2 tape drive

Best regards,

Michael Pultz-Hansen

NTBACKUP of System State was a bit slower than the BE backup, which rule out a BE problem :)

I guess we have to live with the slow backup of System State...

Btw I also tried a D2D backup of System State through BE, and performance was just as bad as on tape.

Best regards,

Michael

You can try backing up the system state on these two servers using NTBACKUP and compare the relative time.  This way, you would know whether BE is the culprit.

Hi,

Shouldn't you have marked my answer as the solution to this problem.  After all, without my suggestion on the use of NTBACKUP, you would still be wondering whether BE is the cause of your problem.
