Tape Inventory takes ages to run

I'm running BE2012SP4 and I have a HP MSL8096 tape library about half full (46 tapes).  On average, it takes 1.5hrs to perform an inventory.  Is this normal?

Any way to speed this up?  Liek a bar code scan as opposed to loading each tape into a drive to read it?

Hi,

A barcode scan will work and identify what is in the library a lot faster than an Inventory job.

48 tapes will take a while, but on the actual time i'm not sure as this would depend on the hardware etc.

Thanks!

EDIT:

Definition of Inventory job (taken from TECH33576):

An Inventory is the process of mounting media in the drive and reading the media label, which is then displayed in the Devices view.
