TapeAlert Error Question

Not applicable
I received the TapeAlert message:

Information - The tape cartridge is nearing the end of its calculated life. It is recommended that you:

Obviously it is telling me to change my tapes. BUT is there a setting within veritas to set the life cycle of your tapes? Is this done by default? How does TapeAlert know when the tapes are near its end? Does this message come up by default every 6months, every year, every 2 years, etc?

I guess what I am trying to find out is, if there are any information on this. My upper management wants to see how and why this is comming up. They don't want to just keep replacing tapes when this message comes up. Any articles or information or settings locations will be greatly appreciated.\

Hello,

The tape alert is generated by the tape drive. Backup Exec does not not give out the tape alert.

Hope it helps!
