We have had various problems using our Backup Executive s/w with our HP Tape Library (MSL6030).
Each week, several jobs get missed or queued for no apparent reason.
But we have noticed that sometimes there are one or two tapes in the drives (2 drives in the library) even though there are no actual jobs being run. Our backup jobs run in the evening (after 6pm). They are well spaced out so that no more than 2 jobs be run at the same time- because we only have 2 drives (but we have 9 daily backup jobs- one for each of 9 servers).
So we reckon that sometimes there are tapes inserted into the drive(s) and therefore delay real backup jobs- i.e. these jobs miss their 'window'.
How can we prevent tapes being inserted into the drives? Is this a fault with Backup Exec? It does not appear to be a hardware fault. For example it could be the case that even though jobs are cancelled (missed jobs which we need to be cancelled else other problems occur if they run on next day etc) in the Backup executive monitor window, but that jobs run any way- and thereforo tape(s) get inserted into the drives.
