After upgrading a SBS 2003 server to SP1, we are now getting this error. We are runing 10.1d.

I have ran the dcom security update, used a different account, tried the local user account, uninstalled the product and reinstalled.

What other things can we do?
Thanks

Hello,

Ensure that you are using an account with Admin rights. Also follow the steps in the technote below:

After a reboot or restarting the Backup Exec services, the Backup Exec Server Service fails to start with the following error: "An internal error (-14) occurred in object 10."
http://support.veritas.com/docs/275017

Are you getting any errors in the event logs in Windows? Also check if there are any alerts in the alerts tab.

Note : If we do not receive your reply within two business days, this post would be marked assumed answered and would be moved to answered questions pool.

Regards.

The account is the administrator account and has all admin rights. I have even tried the local account with no success. The ports are all open as they were prior to upgrading to SP1. Running Netstat does not show the 2 ports as being in use.

I see this event in the app log:

The description for Event ID ( 57802 ) in Source ( Backup Exec ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: -2147467259, 17.

I also see and have done the same as this article:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/275032.htm

Do I need to re-register some .dll's? If so, how do I do this?

Hello,

Please run the sgmon utility, please see the technote then check the sgmon file for "error" or "failed"

http://support.veritas.com/docs/190979

Please paste that part of sgmon.

Thanks,

I stated prior the 2 event errors we are seeing. There are not special applications running, the only difference was SP1 on 2003 server was installed for SBS 2003. Once we upgraded, veritas quit working.

I see no other events related to the startup of the service. These are the 2 events I mentioned earlier.

Looking within the Application Log in the Windows Event Viewer, Event ID 57802 is logged.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Backup Exec
Event Category: (65535)
Event ID: 57802
Date: 2/3/2005
Time: 1:31:17 PM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
The Backup Exec Server Service did not start. An internal error (-2147467259) occurred in object 17.

I resolved the issue on my own after 3 weeks of trying to work through this with very poor veritas support...cummon, 275$ for a call.

I resolved this by running the mdac consistency checker and fixing all items
