The device state has been set to offline because the device attached to the computer is not responding.

I have been working on this for a couple weeks and have not gotten anywhere.  This occurs whenever a backup is ran.  The backup will begin to run and then a few minutes later this error will occur.  As well as this occuring the tape drive is ejected and I have to put the device back into the machine and manually turn the tape back online.  I have looked at similar situations, but they do not seem promising in fixing this issue.

How this is setup

I have a virtual enviornment (ESXi) with 3 virtual servers.  One virtual server is the Backup Exec Server, while the other two have the Backup Exec Agent Utility on them.  Using vSphere I have added the HP H222 HBA to the Backup Exec Server.  It has been running fine for months but all of a sudden it has started giving this error.

The tape drive is a HP LTO Ultrium-5

The HBA is a H222 Host Bus Adapter (We are performing a firmware update tonight to fix another issue)

Using a VM as a media server and accessing a tape drive is not supported.

You should use a physical machine for your media server.
