Hi

After replacing a tape drive in a MSL 4048 auto-loader.

Inventory job failed with the error:

The job failed with the following error: Physical Volume Library Drive or Robot paused, offline, or disabled.

ive tried so far:

1.Restart the server

2. Delete the storage device from backup exec and confogure it from scratch

3. re-install the drivers for the tape drives.

Working with Backup Exec 2012 SP1a on Win Server 2008 R2

Any idea?

Hi

As per your above comment you have reinstalled latest symantec drivers & have installed unknown medium changer too. Have you tried disabling the following HP services,

-  HP Insight Server Agents
   -  HP Insight Storage Agents
   -  HP Insight Foundation Agents
   -  HP WMI Storage Providers service

If not please disable them & then do a good power cycle by powering off the library & then the Media server & then Power on the library & wait for it to be initialized & then Power on the backup server.

Once done try checking again ,should work fine

Thanks

Are you running partitions in the MSL4048? If so, have you ensured that the replaced drive no longer shows up, and that the new drive is showing up correctly to be used?

I'm not running partitions on the MSL4048.

1) Go to the BE installation directory and use tapeinst.exe to delete all occurences of the library and tape drive from BE

2) Stop the media server and the library

3) Start the tape library

4) Start the media server

5) Ensure that the library and tape drive is recognised and functioning correctly in the Windows Device Manager

6) In BE, install the library if necessary.  Go to Tools --> Wizards ---> Device Configuration Wizard to do so.

6) Try again.

After all these and you still have an error, run the HP LT&T utility against the library.  Make sure that you select the write test and that you have stopped all the BE services before running the utility.

...you should ask if the OP has a ProLiant server first...those services are only installed with a SmartStart-assisted installation, or with the installation of a ProLiant Support Pack. Otherwise they don't exist on any other server.

It was a defective drive...

HP replaces it and now everthing is ok.
