The job was canceled because the response to a media request alert was Cancel, or because the alert was configured to automatically respond with Cancel, or because the Backup Exec Job Engine service was stopped.

I'm experiencing the above error on a couple of my servers. All backups work great there are scratch tapes in the tape drive but twice a week I get this error on the servers, which caused the tape job to cancel itselft. I think this has been addressed in the forum with other responses. The suggestions I have come across tell me to change the Response to Media request alert.  I'm not sure how to set the Media Request Alert and when I open up what I think is the media request alert in BUE2012 it's greyed out. I'm thinking I might be misreading the post.

I have BUE 2012 SP2.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ok my question is why does it do that?

I have media in the tape drive it runs for all other jobs. Why is this particular server requesting media to be inserted and why does it not ask that for any other job. Not that I want it to do this for any other server.

I guess just why is it asking for media?

Ok , I would require Little more Information to get this narrowed down...

  1. How Many Backup runs to tape a in a Day ?
  2. Whats the capaicty of the tape and is that standalone or a Tape Library?
  3. is this the backup job that runs last afterall the jobs?

Kind regards

  1. 10 Backup jobs run to tape
  2. The tape drive will do 781GB LTO4
  3. The two servers it happens on are in the middle of the duplicate to tape jobs that run every night.

So the above change did not fix the issue. It just fails. Here is the entire job log from one of the backups that are failing. I honestly don't get it. In the job log it almost looks like it completed. But at the end it just failed.

If this is a Stand Aloone Tape Drive and Eject after Job complets is selected, Would you be able to deselect the Options?

Kind regards,

I just checked the jobs running before and after. Eject after job completes is not checked. Also I checked the job that is failing and it does not have Eject after job completes checked either. Where else could this setting be located? My tape drive is an HP Autoloader 1x8 G2 with an LTO 4 Drive.

This seems to be something Else , Either theDuplicate is requesting for a second tape or its failing due to the Source resource is not avaiable.... would you be able to recreate the Job and see how it goes....

If Possible enable SGMON:

and send it across..

I did try finding something that could give us a hint on the cause, there is no canel request been raised, but what I noticed is it reports media that is not in the source job log thoug ,, seems the Database might have these entries for the job. have you tried recreating the Whol source andduplicate job? I would recommend a support case for this would be a bteer idea to have aquick webex to see.

Something similar happened to me. But i got it fixed somehow.

I'll check how i did it.

We are having this error at times and we dont use tape but direct NAS , so dont think its target based problem but a BE problem in it self.
