The maximum size for a backup set in that version was exceeded. To restore the data, disable the 'Use Fast File Restore' feature, and run the restore job again. For information on how to disable the Use Fast File Restore feature.
I followed the guideline and disabled "fast file restore" as described. Another article out of the knowledgebase asked to do the change in the registry. I also tried this as well as re catalog the media. Did not solve my issue. The job fails with the same problem.
We use win 2016 Standard, x64, BackupExec 2020.2
If anyone has an idea how to fix this I would be really happy.

Could you share the job log with the error message:
Additionally could you let us know what exactly are you trying to restore and to where?
When was that data backed up?
Do you have the same issue with other backup sets of the same data?
Do you have the same issue with other data?

We restore from tape to disk. These backups are be2016 version backup sets.
The be2020 software is newly installed.
The backup sets from version 16 are all error reports.

I am slightly confused by the media label of your tape - why would you call it Veeam2020 ?
Have you tried with "disabling fast file restore" as advised in the job log?
Here is a TN which should help you with this:
