HI There
I was hoping somone could help me with the following;
Using Backup Exec 2010 on a Windows 2003 Server 32bit
Have another Server runing Windows 2008 R2 64bit, this serer is a DC
I cannot connect to the 2008 Server with Backup Exec
The Backup Exec on the WIndows 2003 serer has SP 1 installed and the following Hotfixes
358409 ,354875, 138449, 354913
I have already tried http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH74365
Unfortunatley this has not helped.
I am using the Administrator account for the Backup Exec so privileges should not be a problem.
ANy advise would be welcome

Thanks for the input
I am not certain as I inherited this site
Anyway as a means of verifying your answer I tryed the following
Uninstalled the agent from the Win2008 Server
Reinstalled the agent via the Remote Install option on the Media Server and it listed the Server IP and name, it said it installed to IP successfully but failed on the server name, yet the agent was listed in the Prograsm & Features
I tryed to connect to server via backup selections and it gave the same error
I uninstalled the Agent and installed it locally on the Win 2008 server but same end result of not able to select server.
I tryed adding the IP to the User Defined Section in Selections but when I attempt to connect it just hangs the Backup Exec

Check out the name resolution of media server from remote server and for remote server from media server. Make sure that the remote agent installed is publishing information to media server. And try adding the windows computer under Favorite Resources Node under backup selections.
Refer to this technote for step-by-step procedure.

Hope this helps..

On the Win 2008 server, check the following
1) the BE Remote Agent service is running
2) start up the BE Remote Agent Utility and check that it is publishing to the media server
3) firewalls are either disabled or that BE is allowed to communicate via port 10000

...if you're using IP, it takes name resolution out of the equation.

You said if you expand that machine from BE Selections it hangs BE. How long have you left BE in that state and if you just leave it like that eventually does it give an error.
