Unable to 'uncheck' system state or shadow copy on SQL server

I've had issues with both in the past (this SQL server is 2K3) and so do not want to back up either system state or shadow copy. The problme is that when I try to remove either of these nothing ever happens: it just sits on the hourglass for 1.5 hours so far (I am timing it).  I can remove these on other servers with no problems.  I've seen nothing in the even viewer that indicates anything it just....hangs and never lets me remove the check mark from either of these.  Any ideas?  THanks

If you open the selectrion list and instead of unchecking the boxes you change to the text based view using the tabs above the selections - will it let you delete the liens for the information you don't need?

Try removing the entries from the text view of the selection list.

Open selection list -> click on "view selection details"
