Unplanned shutdown message after restore

Hi,

When I back up a live/on vm and restore it, I would get an unplanned shutdown message after logging it.  Is this normal?

Hi Ado,

I believe it is - yes.

The reason being is because the backup is effectively a snapshot of a running server.  When you restore this snapshot, you aren't able to restore the memory pool of that server at that point in time as well, so the server thinks it has unexpectedly been shut down.

You see the same error when you use the VMware convertor to virtualise a physical server to a virtual server.  The VMware agent uses this same software to do its restore.
