Upgradation Procedure for Symantec Backup Exec 10d to 12.5

Good afternoon,

This is my first time the forum.  Hoping, someone can assist me with this issue

Currently my customer has Symantec Backup Exec 10d (10.1 Rev 5629) installed and would like to upgrade to Symantec Backup Exec 12.5. My current Operating system is Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 2.

Do we first have to Upgrade the version from 10d to 11d and then 12.5 ?

It would be grate help if someone provide step by step details (Best Practice Document) which I can follow to complete this task. Please also suggest if things needs tobe taken care while upgrading the Symantec version.

yes.  You cannot go directly from v10d to v12.x

Hi there,


If your customer's Backup Exec 10D has valid support it means that they are eligible with the free version upgrade and your customer will recieve an upgrade notification ID. Yes, for you to upgrade the BUE 10D, you have to upgrade to BUE 10D 11D, 12.0 and 12.5,

Once you have the notification ID you'll just follow the steps below:

Go to the website Https://licensing.symantec.com and log in to your account

1. Click the link "Version Upgrade";

2. Enter your Notification ID:

3. Click on "View Upgrades";

4. This page displays the UPG available for the Notification Id you entered. Click on “Upgrade” for the product you want to upgrade;

5. At the bottom of the following page, select the license you want to upgrade then click on “Upgrade”;

6. Confirm the email address to which the License key for the upgrade version will be sent and click on “Complete Registration”;

7. On the Confirmation page click “Get software” to download the upgrade from Fileconnect.


If your customer did not recieve the notification ID contact customer care to ask for the notification Id.


(if the BUE 10D does not have valid support)

But if the support of the BUE 10D has been expired it means that they are not eligible with the free version upgrade.The best thing that I'll be advicing is to purchase the upgraded license which is BUE 12.5 (if the BUE 10D does not have valid support)
