Is there an article on this type of move?
Biggest question right now is how to make tapes recognized by 11d server recognized by 2010 server.
Next question and not that related is how to get a remote agent on a workgroup computer. I've tried the correct credentials using both workgroup/administrator, computername/administrator, ipaddress/administrator but get access denied ever time. Not sure why.

Install BE2010 R3 on the new server and then perform DB upgrade using BEMIG.
Refer to http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH50537
Just perform inventory for the tapes to be recognized by BE

Note: DON'T miss step#9
I would suggest you to upgrade from 11d to 2010R3 and then move to different server.
Tapes will be recognized by BE2010 as DB will still contain entries of the tapes

Thanks for the quick response. I will check out the article. I do not have the option to update first then move servers. Can't install .net 2.0 or higher on the server currently being used.

Since I don't have the option to upgrade then move the article in reference is not going to be congruent with my efforts. What is the best practice for having the tapes be recognized per their media set and name without having to go through and rename them all?

In that case, you can migrate your v11d environment to the new server using
http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH67768
How to migrate (move) Backup Exec from one system to another with the same version of BE, Windows and same or different computer names.
Then upgrade in place to 2010
If you do this (ie moving both the database and the \Catalogs dir), all of your existing media should be accessible after the upgrade
(as long as your backup device is supported by v2010, of course )
