Upgrading to BUE 15 from 10d... Catalog files not working

So...

We are upgrading from BUE 10d and attempting to make 15 work.  

We have 10d installed on a 2003 server, while 15 is on a 2008.  I have already learned the hard way that BUE 15 doesn't really like the old 10d catalog files.  

We have also figured out that we need to take steps to upgrade the BUE in steps to make the program run "smoothly".

My question is...

When we upgrade to 12, then to 2010 R3, do we need to inventory and catalog the tapes, or will the catalog files read and transfer nice like?

We got the BUE 15 to find the old catalog files, but they are just folders with nothing in them, as 15 sees it.

If we step up in increments, will our old catalog files be readable without any additional (horribly painful) steps?  We have hundreds of tapes, so manually cataloging each isn't something we really want to do...  at all...

You can just for the procedure in this document to import your of catalogs http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH68896 You don't need to slowly upgrade it you just want to retain the of catalogs. Upgrading the way you do is to retain the jobs and configuration settings

why installing be15 on windows2008?

while you are making such a change in your environment you'd better configure a server with windows 2012 on it and install backupexec. 

in your configuration, you can still have issues with restore of AD grt when your DC's are configured on windows 2012
