VMWare backups failing using SAN transport method.

Hi all

We are running Backup Exec 2010 R3 on a 2008 R2 server and want to backup our VMware VMs directly from our Equalogic iSCSI SAN.

When we try to do this using the SAN transport method it failed with the following error...

Backup- VMVCB::\\LEYVCT01\VCGuestVm\(DC)Leyland(DC)\vm\TESTSERVER
V-79-57344-38277 - Unable to open a disk of the virtual machine.
VixDiskLib_Open() reported the error: You do not have access rights to this file

We have two seperate NICs, one connects to the main network where the vCenter server and the ESXi hosts are and the other connects to the SAN.

We have disable automount and used the iSCSI Initiator to connect to the relevant LUN which appears in disk manager as a Basic disk which is online and the partition shows as Healthy.

We are running the job using a domian admin acount which has full admin rights to the vCenter Server, the ESXi Hosts and the VM.

I have also tried setting up BackupExec on a 2003 R2 server and get the same error.

Can anyone please help ?

Thanks

1) Is any part of the environment configured in French?

2) When you applied the Windows account to the ESX secrurity role, did you define it at the highest level in the ESX tree or at a lower container which may not give persmissiosn ot the datastore itself?

3) When you linked the Windows account to the security role, did you use the specific account or an Windows Group?
