VMWare snapshots not deleted when services stops - By design?

With a referance to this post, is the following situation by design or something I could expect to be fixed in later Hotfixes of BE?

  • Run a backup
  • For some reason, the services stops on the backup server
  • Job fails (OK, I agree on that; this should happen smiley)
  • After backup, the VM Snapshot is not removed.

So, if this happens during a Weekend (lets say early Saturday Morning), I could have 2-3 snapshots in VMWare before I can manage to restart the services, and then I have some maintenance/cleanup to do to remove these shortcuts.

The post I referenced to in the beginning states this from Tech Support

Yes BE should remove the snapshots when the backup finishes - however if something happens to the Backup Exec services on the media server before it can remove the snapshot then it won't remove it

So if you check each day to see if snapshorts are left behind - if they are then check the event logs on the media server for faulting applications.
Can anyone explain why it has to be like this (for security reasons), or if I could expect a fix.
