Verify speeds

I backup a 2003 server with an iscsi storage device of about 490GB.  For the backup I get upwards of 1.5GB/min.  The question I have is in regard to the verify phase.  The verify starts and at best I'm getting about 500MB/min which ties up the drive for the backup cycle.  I'm backing up to AIT5 media and this is a full backup I do for DR offsite storage.  If anyone has any suggestions on what I can do to speed up the verify I'd really appreciat it.

TIA,

A verify is going through the tape and reading the CRC checksums of all the data written to tape.  There really isnt anything to do but schedule your verify to happen either right after your job, or schedule it to happen later during the day when backups are not happening to you are not tieing up a tape drive.
