Veritas 9.1 Fails on MSDE 2000 install

When i try and install veritas 9.1 it always fails when trying to install the MSDE 2000 program. Veritas used to be installed on the server and had been removed, i have also removed the MSDE 2000 as per microsofts document 320873 and removed all instances of backup exec related to the MSDE both at folder and registry level but the new install still fails.

Any ideas?

In this case I would suggest you to review MSDE_BKUPEXEC.log and trace for the exact error message.

Check if you already have an instance of MSSQL$BKUPEXEC in your C:\Program files\ Microsoft SQL Server folder. I was having the same problem and had to delete the previous installation of MSSQL$BKUPEXEC for it to go through
