We are in the process of trying to protect our backup data by encrypting our tape during the backup process. Could you please tell me if this version has the capability to do this? If no, what version will allow us to encrypt our backup data? Thanks.

Nope

Veritas does not offer encryption under any version of BackupExec. You can password protect the tape, but encryption must be done using a third party package before the backup is done.
