Version 10 Install

I want to ask this basic question....
If I install version 10 on a new server and I choose to start from scratch and select all servers I am going to back up manually as I did when I 1st starting using BU Exec....can I import the older version catalogs into the new version so as I can go back in time in the event of a restore or otherwise?

2. Catalog old media. But this operation can take extremely much time especially if you did not select option "Use storage media-based catalogs" when doing backups.
