Hello,
We have 5 Windows server 2012 under Vmware. Every day make a standard windows backup to an other - phisycal - windows server 2012 in two phase.
Phase1:
Server1, Server2, Server3 - Windows Backup to \\backupserver\d
- started every day at 6PM and finished before 8PM
- on windows the backup server runnin' Backup Excec 2012 and starts at 8PM (LTO Tape)
- backup duration approximately is: 1,5 hours
- byte count is 296GB
- post process clear the share...
Phase2:
Server4,Server5 - Windows Backup to \\backupserver\d
-started every day at 23PM and finished before 1:30AM
- on windows the backup server runnin' Backup Excec 2012 and starts at 2:30 AM (LTO Tape)
- backup duration approximately is: 4,5 hours
- byte count is 305GB
I need help how to track down why the difference is so big between the two backup.
Any help apperitiated.
tnx:

Start off by comparing the job logs.
Expand the job log sections and compare the time taken for the backup job to actually start, time taken for the storage media to be acquired and also throughput taken for backup and verify.
Secondly, if running any AV on the Servers 4 & 5 add exclusions for the BE processes.
Verify the NIC settings are set exactly the same on the remaining two servers as well.
Lastly, was this a one-time occurence or does Servers 4 & 5 always take a long time as compared to the other two servers ? If always, have you tried running the backup at a different time ?

i don't really know why...licencing? or technical issues...i don't remember...

i attached the logs and historys.

- i try to comapre the time stamps
- no BE process, we use windows backup to netshare on clients..
- i don't think if the NIC is matter, because the BE starts after the windows backups finished
- if we don't find solution i will re-scheduled the task and see what happenin'

Can you give me details about your Infrastructure and System Enviromantel
Phase1: Gaia,Zeus,Aresz,Triton- daily -Full
Phase2: Ossza,Hera - daily-Full
What is the differ between the Systems ??? On both System you getting a normal throughput for NDB
NIC,Hardware,DiskLayout,OS,RAID Controller,Backbone Infrastructure, VLAN, Firewall

...unless that is causing issues by running into production times I would just leave it. The times look fine.
An issue might be files and their sizes causing the tape drive to stop/start all the time for the second backup job.
Thanks!

What details you need?
Gaia - phisycal backup server - windows 2012 with backup excec 2012
Others: - Windows server 2012 (administrator server, mail server, dc, mail archiver...etc..)
Every server made a windows backup server with same structure...just the file backup file size is different...
I try to change the order of the backup and see what happen...

Your have written that you use Hypervisor ... that depence a lot of think about the backup process.
Is any other process running, which type of network your are using, bonding , lacp or active/standby
Cupper or Fibre, GRT, VSS installed with VMware Tools, VMware tools installed ?
1. order change is a good idea
2. seperate job for each system
3. can you switch the timeframe for the job ?
addtitional question: I agree with the previous speaker on, why you don't use VM Disk Backup
-> you need the vm ware option and add the hypervisor, if you have a deduplicated storage you have a very scalable backup
